Palace Square is the central city square of St Petersburg. It was the setting of many events of world-wide significance, including the Bloody Sunday (1905) and the October Revolution of 1917. On the northern side of the square stands the picturesque Baroque Winter Palace. Across the square, on the southern side, there is the classical yellow-and-white General Staff building.
