This masterpiece of architecture and the world´s largest church laid out in 17th century for the Christians of the world to gather. The façade was built 1606-1614 by Carlo Maderno. The steps leading to it and colonnade are by Bernini, and the statues of Sts Peter and Paul flanking the steps are from the 19th century.
