The tallest building on Manhatten.King-Kong fought airplanes on the top of this famous landmark in even more famous movie.
Empire State building is a 102-storey building at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street. It stood as the world´s tallest building for more than forty years 1931-1970. The building has an indoor and outdoor observation deck on the 86th floor that offers impressive 360-degree views of the city. There is also a second observation deck on the 102nd floor that was closed for many years and re-opened in 2005.
Floodlights illuminate the top of the building at night, in colors chosen to match seasonal and other events, such as Christmas. For example, in June 2002, during the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, New York City illuminated the Empire State Building in purple and gold (the monarchical colors of the Royal House of Windsor).
